| HISTORY |
|
The Jai Freestyle Martial Arts & Fitness Academy in Eastburn was founded by Robin Shepherd in March 2004. Robin has trained under Kru Pierre Mahon in Harrogate and Apidej Sit-Hirun, the Muay Thai Grand Master, in Thailand. He also trains at Bad Company in Leeds. Prior to opening the Academy, Robin taught freelance classes around surrounding areas in various gymnasiums and town halls.
The Academy was named ‘Jai Freestyle’ - ‘Jai’ being the Thai word for Heart, which is the symbol within the Company logo. The Company name therefore represents the Academy’s philosophy of encouraging its students to put their heart and sole into their chosen sport.
Primarily the Academy began with just the Jai Freestyle Muay Thai Boxing Club and Eastburn Boxing Club, which are both now very well established. Having gone from strength to strength over the past 4 years, the Academy now offers an extensive range of martial arts and fitness classes (see Homepage Links).

Classes are open to all fitness levels and ages and students should not be worried about their fitness ability or weight. Students are encouraged to walk through the door and meet their full potential. All our instructors provide friendly and professional tuition. Students should never be scared to ask for help. There is a good ratio of women to men and girls to boys in all classes. More recently ‘women only’ classes, taught by female instructors, have been made available for those who do not wish to attend mix sessions.
